Weekend With Rusty #4: Transitioning Tranny's Get Smoked Out!

California was burning down once again and all I could think of was how great that diffused lighting looks under these Smokey conditions. Not to make light of this grave situation (or the ever present thought that we are going to hell in a hand basket) but the old adage "when life serves you up lemons, make lemon whiskey sours" comes to mind during these trying times.

"when life serves you up lemons, make lemon whiskey sours.... "

Also this new Nor Cal armageddon served up A perfect excuse for the last "Weekend with Rusty" of the Summer! So instead of re routing our lives to safer ground we packed up the camera gear, gathered the boys and headed straight into the blaze.........

The goal was simple, head as far into the tasty terrain the wine country offers until we get evacuated or burned to death. Avoiding the road blocks for coping block wouldn't be easy but we had the right crew for the job. The itinerary was drawn and full to say the least: Pick Rusty up at Pleasanton Poo Park, Warm up at the Montclair mini, gather more heads at Emeryville, hit Lower Bob's to get re-warmed up, then head into the fire at Monte Rio and Sebastopol and finally hit Treasure Island on our way back home..... of course we hit random street quarters on the way as well. Capture the clips until we choked or got broke was the mission and the boys were ready...... or so we thought.

"Avoiding the road blocks for coping block wouldn't be easy"

No smoke was in sight until we ventured deep up the 101 north. Then things changed dramatically..... the light we were searching was almost upon us, the gas stations had lines as long as the great oil shortage of 1973 and all traffic was going the other direction of our vehicle. Temporary traffic signs all suggested we turned around and the emergency broadcast system was in full force on the radio. We ventured on.....

"all traffic was going the other direction of our vehicle"

To be honest It just didn't seem like last years tragic fire storm. I fully understand the precautions and paranoia the local folk must feel but we just didn't see a reason to be alarmed or turn back on the task at hand. As we arrived in Monte Rio (the deepest spot in the fires path) we were assured by the local skaters that there was no reason to worry. Even though the whole town was dippin and the coffee shop on the hill closed its doors (and recommended we bounce) we were seeing this through.......there was no way we were backing down from the terror that is global warming!

As we settled into the track and were assured we could escape easily, the usual sesh unfolded. Maneuvers were executed and the camera's came out right away to capture the action. The standard smoke session already took place a couple times during the day but now that we’re settled in a good old blaze fest took place. Nothing particularly unusual but you know how the Devils Lettuce can sometimes adversely react to a already anxious mind. One of our more sensitive campers took a quick turn for the worse. The thought of impending doom from the fires was too much for him to take and pleaded for us to get safer ground. We didn’t listen though.... we were too busy filming, skating and enjoying our new friends company. Maybe we didn’t pay close enough attention to his needs but our worried warrior was so distressed he bounced without anyone knowing, Lost In the woods where the Sasquatch runs free.....

"Muttering something about the brewing apocalypse

yet still puffing on that 32% THC pen."

Luckily he wasn't too hard to find. Curled up in the fetal position rambling incoherently at that shack by the local post office. Muttering something about the brewing apocalypse yet still puffing on that 32% THC pen..... some heads just don't realize the real fire is in your mind and escaping it ain’t as easy as running down the road. We talked him down the best we could though and decided to assuage his need to leave the fire area for safer ground. On to Treasure Island where the seagulls fly and the broken condoms lay. Normal lighting was once again bouncing through our lenses but we were soon safe by the sea. 48 hours of burning shred and the conclusion was unanimous, this was the best Weekend With Rusty ever! So good we decided to go out on a high note and put a end the Rusty series right here with number 4. We just won't be able to out do this one so why try?

We Proudly Present the Weekend With Rusty 4!

Forget about Lakai's "Street Safari", Milton's "¡DEMOLICIÓN!", Primitives "Encore" and even Baker 4...... Weekend With Rusty 4 is most definitely the feel good "end of year" video.

Lastly:

With the end of Weekend with Rusty we need to get a new catchy sounding adventure to document for you.... Since Jesse seems to always get that last trick in the Rusty videos maybe we can do something clever with the him? Journey with Jesse? Backpacking with Boudreau? Wandering with the Wizard? IDK...... i'm sure we'll think of something.

Yours (Mostly) Truly
